Saranjit’s vast experience in civil litigation involving corporate, commercial and aviation disputes, personal and corporate insolvency, receivership, shareholders and directors disputes, arbitration, estate disputes, tax related, banking and real property litigation has, over the years, seen him represent and advice various public companies in the aviation and logistics industries, leading FMCG companies, foreign Governments and a range of individual and corporations in diverse industries.

Saranjit has over 20 years of experience in the aviation sector acting for airlines and insurers on a wide range of contentious matters involving major aviation accidents, commercial contracts and aviation product-liability, carriage of cargo, passenger claims and ground handling contracts and disputes, and other legal regulatory issues concerning the aviation and logistics industry. Saranjit also advises several aviation entities on conditions of carriage, risk management, human resources contracts and bonds and regulatory matters concerning the aviation industry.

    • Malaysian Airlines, MH 370
    • Malaysian Airlines, MH 17
    • Laos Airlines Flight 301 in Pakse, Laos
    • MASWings accident in Kudat, Sabah
  • Acting as Lead Counsel in landmark Malaysian decision on the international pre-emption under Article 29 Montreal Convention 1999 of common law causes of action in connection to fatal international aviation claims
  • Representing Malaysian Airlines and acting as Lead Counsel in a decision decided for the first time in Malaysia on the applicability of Civil Law Act 1956 in relation to fatal aviation accidents under Montreal Convention 1999
  • Acting for Transmile Air in disputes involving various charter agreements and leases
  • Acting for and advising MASkargo in a wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters involving carriage of cargo, contracts, human capital agreements, advising on aircraft leases, cargo claims, property damage and loss, goods handling contracts and disputes

Dhiya has been with Messrs Saranjit Singh since 2014 and made a Partner in 2018. Throughout her tenure, Dhiya has assisted her senior in various Trial and appeals at the Court of Appeal and Federal Court. Dhiya has also conducted hearings and trials at the High Court and appeals at the Court Appeal. She jointly looks after and handles the aviation portfolio of the firm, and in particular the matters concerning aviation accidents involving MH 370 and MH 17, aviation insurance claims and disputes on the carriage of passenger and cargo. Dhiya has appeared at all levels as second chair in landmark decisions concerning international pre-emption under Article 29 Montreal Convention 1999 of common law causes of action in connection to fatal international aviation claims and on the applicability of Civil Law Act 1956 in relation to fatal aviation accidents under Montreal Convention 1999.

Dhiya’s portfolio also includes overseeing the risk management and claims involving human capital agreements and bonds including dispute resolution in industrial relations, and has provided clients in the aviation industry advice on regulatory matters including MAVCOM, International Conventions and domestic regulations relating to civil aviation.

Dhiya’s portfolio also covers matters relating to tenancy/lease management and dispute resolution, real property disputes, handles all matters involving probate and administration both contentious and non-contentious, banking and insurance litigation, tort-based claims, personal insolvency advice and litigation, contractual and corporate documents review, and acts in an advisory capacity for heavy industry corporations.

Roshan joined Messrs Saranjit Singh in 2015 having experience in Immigration Law and commercial dispute resolutions involving contractual claims with fraud elements, carriage of cargo disputes, industrial relations advice and litigation and general debt recovery.

Roshan’s portfolio also includes advising aviation entities on their employment contracts and bonds, the recovery proceedings for breaches in contracts and bonds, personal insolvency claims and has represented clients under his portfolio in trials and hearings at the High Court and assisted seniors at the appellate courts. Roshan also advises clients in the FMGC industry by providing risk management advice and contract management services and advises and handles contentious family disputes involving administration of estate.

AMIR ‘ARIF AZMI

Amir joined the firm in 2015 and assists both partners in their respective portfolios and has appeared as junior counsel at the High Court and the appellate courts. Amir’s acquired experience has seen him appear in the Sessions Court and the High Court representing his clients for contractual disputes and tort-based claims. Amir is also involved in attending to the attritional insurance claims involving aviation entities on the carriage claims for both passengers and cargo, and advising a GLC on their financing agreements and representing them in recovery proceedings.
